Exports of raw coffee beans from Mexico grew 171% from January to April 2025 compared to the same period of 2024.

Thus, these sales reached 349 million dollars, according to Inegi data.

In all of 2024, exports of raw coffee beans from Mexico were 405 million dollars.

Raw coffee beans refer to green coffee, i.e. coffee that has already been pulped and dried, but has not yet been roasted.

Exports of raw coffee beans

The coffee trade moves billions of dollars. But not all coffee is the same. There are three main types. Each has a key role in the value chain.

First, raw or green coffee. This is the dry, unroasted bean. This is how it is exported from the producing countries. It is the raw material that travels around the world.

Next, roasted coffee. Here the beans go through the roasting process. It is ready to be ground and prepared. It is the favorite of coffee shops and demanding consumers.

Finally, soluble or instant coffee. It is produced from the roasted bean. The extract is dried and converted into powder. It dissolves instantly in hot water. Its consumption is growing, especially in emerging markets.

Trend

Mexican coffee exports for the 2024/25 season (October through September) were revised upward. They are expected to reach 2.9 million green bean equivalent tons. This increase reflects an unexpected growth in soluble coffee shipments.

In contrast, exports for the 2023/24 season were adjusted downward. This is indicated by the latest data from the Trade Data Monitor.

Meanwhile, projections for production in the 2025/26 season are more optimistic. Mexico is estimated to reach 3.9 million green grain equivalent tons. This slight increase is due to two key factors: favorable international prices and new planting incentives. Efforts to improve crop varieties also play a role.

On the other hand, domestic consumption of roasted coffee is also expected to grow. It is expected to reach 1.35 million equivalent tons in 2025/26. This progress is due to private and governmental initiatives that promote the quality of Mexican coffee and its local consumption.

The United States continues to be the main destination for Mexican coffee. At the same time, it continues to be the largest exporter of soluble coffee to Mexico.
