The 70 companies in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec

Located in southern Mexico, the Isthmus of Tehuantepec includes the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz. It is the narrowest area of the country between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

Some of the companies operating in this area are: Celanese, La Fina, Bachoco, Minsa, Infra, Cemex, Clariant, Campi, Maseca, Unigel, GCS, Emerson, PMV, Innophos and CRYOINFRA.

Mexico is the fifth largest nation in the Americas and the thirteenth largest in the world in terms of total surface area, occupying a territory of 1,964,375 square kilometers (km).

To the north, Mexico shares a 3,141 km border with the United States. To the southeast, Mexico shares a 641 km border with Guatemala and 249 km with Belize.

To the east, its coastline extends 2,429 km along the Gulf of Mexico and 865 km along the Caribbean Sea, and to the west, its coastline extends 7,828 km along the Pacific Ocean.

Mexico is geographically diverse. It contains mountain ranges and large coastal plains, as well as valleys, canyons, plateaus and depressions, among other features.

Among Mexico’s most prominent geographic features are the Sierra Madre Occidental and Sierra Madre Oriental, the Baja California Peninsula, the Mesa del Centro and the Yucatan Peninsula.

Approximately 12% of Mexico’s land is arable, about 55% is suitable for grazing, and approximately 34% is forested.

Mexico plans to establish 10 industrial parks («development poles»), which will have incentives to attract investment projects in logistics and activities related to agribusiness, manufacturing, energy and services, with the goal of turning the area into a delivery hub for the domestic market and re-exports.

These development poles would form part of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT).
