Orbia’s research and development projects have seen increasing investments in recent years.

These investments are aimed at changing the production of goods with higher added value in all of the company’s business groups.

The trend of Orbia’s investments in the last three years is shown below:

  • 2021: US$69 million.
  • 2022: US$72 million,
  • 2023: $80 million.

Orbia’s research and development

With 24,000 employees in 50 countries and 119 production plants, the company produces everything from PVC resins and refrigerant gases, to precision irrigation systems, fluorine, connectivity infrastructure meters, telecommunications cables and conduits, among other products.

These are some of its projects:

  • In its Polymer Solutions business, it focuses on the development of high-end plastic compounds with the assets of Mexichem Specialty Resins and Mexichem Specialty Compounds. 
  • Vestolit, the largest producer of high-impact PVC resins, is developing a new generation of flexible, safer, and more durable PVC resins that use less energy to produce end products, as well as developing better flame-retardant solutions for cable production.

  • In its Building & Infrastructure business, through the Technology Committee and its R&D centers, it generates innovative products such as heating systems digitally controlled through cell phones (Sentio).
  • Orbia also invests in its Connectivity Solutions business to develop high-density polyethylene products through conduit and pressure pipe solutions for telecommunications (voice and data) and energy.
  • In its Precision Agriculture business, through its agricultural solutions, the GrowSphere Irrigation and Fertigation Operating System provides a technology platform that allows farmers to control their crops remotely through any mobile device. It also allows the company, through the support of agronomists and technologists, to advise farmers on nutrient, fertilizer and irrigation management and overall management of their field during the production process.
