Through its Fluor & Energy Materials business group, Mexican company Orbia reported that it exported 80% of its fluorspar production in 2024.
The company does not specify in its annual reports what volume of fluorspar it produces, but it is by far the largest producer of this mineral.
In 2024, Mexico‘s fluorspar mining production was 1,170,537 tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.7 percent.

Six countries, China, Mexico, Mongolia, South Africa, Vietnam and Spain, consistently account for more than 90 percent of the world’s fluorspar production.
Orbia is positioned as the world’s largest fluorspar supplier. Its fluorinated products are used in key sectors such as medicine, refrigeration and energy storage.
In addition, its Fluor & Energy Materials unit stands out for having a fully integrated value chain. This chain ranges from the extraction of fluorspar to the production and sale of advanced materials.
These products include hydrofluoric acid, aluminum trifluoride (AlF₃), refrigerant gases, medical propellants and fluorinated compounds for batteries. These are marketed in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
On the other hand, Orbia owns the exploitation rights of the largest fluorspar mine in the world. This is located in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and represents a strategic resource for the company.
