Number of Pemex gas stations drops 14.4%
As of March 31 of the current year, 8,084 gasoline and diesel stations operated under the Pemex Franchise.
This number is 14.4% lower than the 9,448 gasoline and diesel stations that existed at the end of the first quarter of 2019.
Of the total service stations in operation, 8,039 are private and operate as franchises, while the remaining 45 are owned by Pemex Transformación Industrial (self-consumption service stations).
In addition, on the same date, 638 service stations were registered under the brand sub-licensing scheme.
Finally, 2,568 service stations operate with brands other than Pemex, which are supplied by both Pemex and direct import.
Gas stations
Pemex has made concerted efforts to build and improve its brands.
In accordance with these efforts, on June 5, 2016, Pemex Transformación Industrial announced the establishment of a joint brand program between that company and several entities that own and operate retail service stations in Mexico.
The co-branding program allowed its franchisees to rename their retail service stations while continuing to sell our products under the Pemex brand.
At the same time, Pemex continued to provide technical and operational assistance to these franchisees. The company believes that this program has strengthened its relationship with entities that own and operate gasoline and diesel service stations in Mexico, and intends to continue with the commercial brand strategy.
Renewal
On November 15, 2017, Pemex relaunched the «Pemex Franchise» imaging program with a new business model that includes new products and a variety of partnership structures.
The objective of this program, which consists of almost 10,000 service stations throughout Mexico, is to provide better service to end users and strengthen the Pemex brand.
Likewise, on October 11, 2018, the company launched the seventh generation of its high-performance additive that combines with its Pemex Magna and Pemex Premium gasoline.
This additive will be promoted as Pemex Aditec. The company believes that Pemex Aditec could be a competitive advantage for its Pemex franchise program.
