México regulamentará a infraestrutura de carregamento de carros elétricos

Mexico‘s government is about to publish a regulation related to electric car charging infrastructure.

To this end, the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) sent to the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement (Cofemer) the revision of a regulation.

The regulation establishes guidelines for the development of charging infrastructure, in order to accelerate and regulate the installation of charging centers for electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrids and hybrids.

The regulation also aims to develop standards for the final disposal of batteries and introduce General Administrative Provisions (DACG) on electromobility to integrate charging infrastructure into the National Electric System (SEN).

It also addresses the development of a smart grid and charging station tariffs.

The federal government plans to regulate the orderly connection of charging infrastructure for EVs and connectable electric vehicles (VEHC), in a safe manner to the National Electric System and the development of a digital platform that allows to know the evolution of the charging infrastructure in Mexico.

The government set the following specific objectives:

  • Establish the general requirements to be met by those interested in integrating EV and VEHC charging infrastructure to the SEN.
  • Promote the participation of qualified personnel in the installation and connection of equipment dedicated to EV and VEHC charging, which will receive electricity supply from the SEN.
  • Establish the information that end users and suppliers must provide. This information will allow the integration of a relevant public data platform on EV and VEHC charging infrastructure.

With the implementation of the draft regulatory project, the aim is to provide certainty to end users on the requirements to be met when submitting their request, and to the Suppliers in the attention of these requests.

In addition, with the participation of qualified personnel and the use of certified or certified equipment, it is expected to reduce the risk of accidents or failures. This will provide confidence to end users that the charging infrastructure installed in their properties -such as apartments, shopping malls, electric stations, electroterminals and public charging stations- is safe and durable.
