Copper continues to play a key role in the global infrastructure chain. It is also the third most widely used metal, behind only iron and aluminum. It is also notable for its chemical and physical properties.

This metal is highly ductile and malleable. It offers high thermal and electrical conductivity. It also has remarkable resistance to corrosion.

The mining units of Cozamin (24,907 tons) owned by Capstone Copper, La Paz (24,498 tons) owned by Nemisa, and Tayahua (21,609 tons) owned by Minera Frisco occupied the following positions.

Copper is considered a premium material for electrical and electronic products. It also powers key components for power transmission and generation. These uses account for about three-quarters of global demand. It also supports sectors such as telecommunications, building construction, transportation, and industrial machinery.

Copper also plays an important role in non-electrical applications. It is used in plumbing and roofing. And when combined with zinc to form brass, it is used in numerous industrial and consumer applications.

Other notable copper mining units include Aranzazu by Aura Minerals, Bolivar by Sierra Metals, Capela by Industrias Peñoles, and Tizapa by Industrias Peñoles.

Buenavista

Minera Mexico is engaged in the extraction and processing of copper, molybdenum, zinc, silver, gold, and lead. It also operates through subsidiaries grouped into three separate units.

In turn, Mexicana de Cobre manages La Caridad, an open-pit copper mine. It also controls the Pilares open-pit mine, a copper ore concentrator, an SX-EW plant, a smelter, a refinery, and a wire rod plant. The La Caridad refinery includes a precious metals plant that produces refined silver, gold, and other materials.

Operadora de Minas e Instalaciones Mineras operates Buenavista, an open-pit copper mine located in one of the world’s largest deposits. It also operates two copper concentrators, a zinc concentrator, and two SX-EW plants.
