The Nichupté Bridge will save up to 45 minutes on the journey between Cancún and the hotel zone, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT).

Cancún is the main destination in the Caribbean, with more than double the number of passenger arrivals than Puerto Rico, its closest competitor.

Nichupté Bridge

Murano Global Investments expects total passenger traffic in Cancún to remain stable in the coming years. The levels reached in 2024 exceeded pre-COVID-19 pandemic records by 14%.

The Nichupté Bridge in Quintana Roo is establishing itself as a strategic project. It seeks to improve urban mobility and strengthen territorial resilience in one of Mexico‘s most visited tourist areas.

With a total length of 11.2 kilometers, the project includes an 8.8-kilometer main bridge with three lanes, two for traffic and one reversible. It also includes a 103-meter metal arch to cross a natural cavern and two junctions with a length of 2.4 kilometers.

This infrastructure speeds up the connection between Cancun International Airport and the hotel zone. In addition, it reduces travel times by up to 45 minutes. In case of emergency, it will serve as an evacuation route in the event of hydrometeorological phenomena, reinforcing the safety of residents and tourists.

As of October 1, 2024, the project was 67% complete. By June 30, 2025, physical progress had reached 82%. Completion is scheduled for December of the same year.

Between October 2024 and June 2025, 2.762 billion pesos have been invested. The project has generated 51,000 jobs and will benefit 1.32 million residents, as well as more than 20 million tourists each year. Its economic, social, and environmental impact consolidates the region’s sustainable development.

Infrastructure in Cancun

In recent years, the number of passengers arriving in Cancun has grown strongly. The pace clearly exceeds the increase in hotel room supply, which opens up an opportunity for the hotel industry.

According to the most recent data, in June 2023 Cancun had 35,250 rooms available. In 2019, before the pandemic, the figure was 35,115. However, passenger flow in 2023 had already exceeded pre-COVID-19 levels, confirming the recovery and dynamism of the tourist destination.
