Mexico broke the record for sales of electric and hybrid vehicles from January to August 2025, with more than 88,000 units sold.

Furthermore, according to the EvolvX Report, it is estimated that 2025 will close with 130,500 units sold, also a historic high.

This report will be presented by Latam Mobility, the leading platform for sustainable mobility in Latin America, on October 13 and 14, 2025, at the World Trade Center in Mexico City.

Sales of electric and hybrid vehicles

In the Mexican context, on March 25, 2025, the Hecho en México (Made in Mexico) distinction was awarded to OLINIA, the first manufacturer of mini electric vehicles developed in Mexico. Its objective is the development and production of domestic electric vehicles. OLINA promotes sustainable and accessible mobility.

In June 2025, the Evaluation Committee approved an investment project linked to Plan Mexico. The initiative includes the purchase of new machinery. The aim is to expand the installed capacity for the manufacture of metal products. In addition, the objective is to serve strategic sectors such as automotive, agro-industrial, and logistics. This will strengthen the development of production chains and encourage new investments.

The EvolvX Report, based on information from INEGI and international data, shows that sales of electrified vehicles (hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and battery electric vehicles) in Mexico rose from 24,405 units in 2020 to more than 124,000 in 2024, multiplying fivefold in just five years. This growth confirms a sustained trend.

The report confirms that Mexico is following the global trend. On the one hand, infrastructure is being consolidated. At the same time, incentives are being expanded. In this environment, consumers see conventional hybrids (HEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) as a practical option. In this way, they are able to incorporate cleaner mobility into their lives now.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) continue to gain ground: in 2020, sales were 450 units, and in 2024, they reached nearly 24,300.

According to Latam Mobility’s projections, Mexico could achieve different growth scenarios by 2030: a conservative one, with annual growth of 10%, would bring the market to 210,287 units; and an optimistic scenario, with annual growth of 20%, could exceed 324,904 units.
