Mexican mango exports have maintained an upward trend over the last seven years, representing a success story for Mexico‘s fruit sector.

These foreign sales have doubled over the last decade, rising from $282 million in 2014 to $592 million in 2024.

Mangoes are in high demand worldwide due to their sweet taste, nutritional value, and versatility in cooking. In addition, their consumption is growing due to the trend toward fresh and healthy foods. Their tropical production makes them a key fruit in international trade.

In 2024, the area harvested for this fruit in Mexico broke records, reaching 214,000 hectares.

Mexico is competitive in mango production due to its favorable climate, large cultivated area, and diversity of varieties. In addition, it has export experience, proximity to large markets such as the United States, and quality certifications that strengthen its international position.

North America

Mexico grows mango varieties such as Ataulfo, Tommy Atkins, Kent, Haden, and Keitt. These varieties are notable for their sweetness, aroma, and texture. Their international quality, backed by phytosanitary certifications, positions Mexico as a reliable and competitive leading exporter.

Mexico’s location plays an important role, as it has a prominent tropical zone in North America. Its exports of this product are concentrated in the United States, with shipments also going to Canada.

US companies such as PepsiCo, through its Tropicana juices, Nestlé, with mango-flavored ice cream and beverages, and General Mills, through Yoplait yogurts with natural fruit, use mango as a key ingredient. These companies take advantage of its exotic flavor and nutritional value to respond to the growing demand for healthy products.

The government has defined the agricultural sector as a national priority. To this end, it is promoting measures that seek to increase productivity and improve living standards in rural areas.

In this regard, policies include the consolidation of production into larger units. They also contemplate the expansion of the national irrigation system. In addition, they offer more credit to farmers and coverage to mitigate the risks faced by agricultural products.
