Grupo Bimbo’s regenerative agriculture reached 500,000 hectares by the end of 2025, a year-over-year increase of 66.7 percent.

What is regenerative agriculture? It is a set of agricultural practices aimed at restoring soil health and fertility. Additionally, they seek to improve biodiversity, sequester carbon from the atmosphere, and enhance water quality.

In 2002, Grupo Bimbo had 89,000 hectares of this type of farming. It then increased this figure to 170,000 hectares in 2023. Finally, it expanded it to 300,000 hectares in 2024.

In addition to Grupo Bimbo, Grupo Herdez is leading local efforts. Meanwhile, multinationals such as Nestlé, PepsiCo, Bayer, and Diageo are scaling up regenerative agriculture in Mexico through investment, technology, and the development of agricultural suppliers.

Carbon Emissions

On Grupo Bimbo’s path toward net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, its Regenerative Agriculture initiative is a fundamental part of reducing emissions.

The main objective of this initiative is to promote practices that improve soil quality. Consequently, the goal is to ensure the continuity of harvests.

By 2050, Grupo Bimbo is committed to sourcing 100% of its key ingredients from land cultivated using regenerative agriculture practices, which will help achieve a 28% reduction in Scope 3 carbon emissions by 2030.

Grupo Bimbo promotes these farming practices to improve soil, biodiversity, and water quality while reducing emissions. Additionally, it trains producers to build resilient systems. Its goal is to cultivate 200,000 hectares of wheat using sustainable practices by 2030, thereby strengthening its environmental strategy.

Initial Projects

In 2022, Grupo Bimbo exceeded its goal in the United States with 80,000 hectares of regenerative farming. In Mexico, in partnership with CIMMYT, it trained 527 farmers across 9,000 hectares, yielding 81,000 tons of grain and reducing emissions.

Grupo Bimbo implements these actions to reduce emissions from the soil. By improving soil microbiology and carbon sequestration, it transforms fields into natural sinks—systems that store more CO₂ than they release—supporting its decarbonization and climate mitigation strategy.
