FedEx’s capital expenditures will have a halt to a three-year straight downward trend if the plan for 2026 comes to fruition.

FedEx, a Memphis, Tennessee, U.S.-based global logistics and courier company, plans capital expenditures of $4.5 billion for fiscal 2026 (concluded at the end of May 2026).

In this financial item, the company recorded year-on-year declines of 8.7% in 2023, 16.2% in 2024 and 21.7% in 2025, considering fiscal years.

FedEx capital expenditures

This company specializing in express transportation, international shipping, supply chain solutions and e-commerce reported capital expenditures of $4.055 billion in 2025, its lowest level in 11 years.

In that fiscal year, its capital expenditures decreased $1,121 million, primarily due to lower spending on aircraft and related equipment, vehicles and trailers, facilities and other, and information and technology investments at Federal Express.

FedEx expects to invest around US$4.5 billion in 2026. This figure represents an increase of $400 million versus 2025. The increase is in response to new Network 2.0 initiatives and projects to modernize facilities and package handling equipment, both in the U.S. and abroad.

In contrast, spending on aircraft will decrease. It is estimated to be about US$1 billion, US$300 million less than the previous year.

The company continues to review its long-term strategic investments. It is seeking to ensure a high return and to align its decisions with the global economic environment.

FedEx capital expenditures, in millions of dollars, are shown below, considering fiscal years:

  • 2020: 5,868.
  • 2021: 5,884.
  • 2022: 6,763.
  • 2023: 6,174.
  • 2024: 5,176.
  • 2025: 4,055.
  • 2026 (programmed): 4,500.

Logistics

As of May 31, 2025, Federal Express employed about 440,000 workers. It also operated about 63,000 delivery points, including FedEx Office and FedEx OnSite, as well as more than 15,000 Walgreens and Dollar General stores.

Its global network included nearly 700 aircraft and more than 175,000 motor vehicles. In addition, it contracted with some 5,700 small independent companies for long-haul, pickup and delivery services.

One year earlier, as of June 7, 2024, the company had approximately 430,000 employees. It maintained some 64,000 delivery points, including nearly 17,000 Walgreens, Dollar General and Albertsons stores.

During that period, the air and vehicle fleet remained stable. However, the number of contractor companies was slightly higher, with about 6,000 independent partners supporting FedEx ground operations.
