FDI flows to Mexico grow 14.5% and break records

FDI flows to Mexico grew at an annual rate of 14.5% in the period from January to September 2025 and broke records, the Ministry of Economy reported on Wednesday.

As a result, FDI inflows reached $40.906 billion.

The figures are preliminary and tend to be adjusted upward in subsequent months, which is why they are also compared with the corresponding preliminary figures when they were announced in each case.

Plan Mexico, aimed at boosting the country’s regional development, comprises 13 objectives and includes a portfolio of domestic and foreign investments totaling $277 billion.

From January to September 2025, new investments registered an increase of 218.6% compared to the same period last year. With this increase, they reached US$6.563 billion.

At the same time, profit reinvestment registered a year-on-year decline of 9.7%, to US$27.749 billion.

Finally, FDI inflows through intercompany accounts rose by 125%, reaching US$6.593 billion.

The figures are preliminary and tend to be adjusted upward in subsequent months, which is why they are also compared with the corresponding preliminary figures when they were announced in each case.

“It means that investors from around the world are investing even more than we had expected,” said Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy, when he announced the FDI data at the National Palace this morning.

Promotional structure

On July 13, 2025, the Ministry of Economy reported progress in the creation of Investment Promotion Committees throughout the country, an initiative aimed at promoting and sustaining domestic and foreign investment.

In addition, committees were launched in Campeche, Baja California Sur, and San Luis Potosí, bringing the total number of state committees to eight. The strategy envisions the creation of 32 state committees and one national committee, within the framework of Plan Mexico, as a formal and reliable space for dialogue between the federal government and the business sector.
