Products grown in Mexico play a prominent role in Calavo Growers’ exports to Asia and Canada.

Calavo Growers is a global leader in the production, packaging, and distribution of fresh avocados, tomatoes, and papayas. These fruits are grown in regions such as Mexico and Hawaii, reinforcing the company’s international presence.

The company also operates a prepared products division. This unit produces and markets fresh and frozen guacamole. It also produces avocado pulp.

Sales within the United States accounted for most of Calavo Growers’ revenue. In 2025, they reached $593.8 million. This figure represented 92% of the company’s total net sales, which totaled $648.4 million, a year-on-year decline of 2%.

In terms of international supply, the business model relies mainly on imports from Mexico for subsequent distribution. Calavo’s Mexican subsidiary and partners such as Agrícola Belher and Don Memo grow, pack, and export tomatoes and avocados to the United States.

In addition, the company sources avocados from California, Peru, and Colombia. At its facilities, Calavo Growers sorts, packages, and ripens avocados, tomatoes, and Hawaiian papayas. It also processes and packages guacamole for various markets.

Its products are distributed nationally and internationally. However, the company does not own or operate any farms. It therefore relies on independent growers and strategic supply relationships to meet its supply needs.

Mexican production

Calavo Growers sources avocados from Michoacán and Jalisco, its main sourcing regions. In addition, guacamole and avocado pulp are mainly produced at its plant in Uruapan, Michoacán.

The company also distributes tomatoes produced in Mexico through strategic alliances. Its partners include Agrícola Belher and Agrícola Don Memo, the latter with operations in Jalisco. These relationships ensure the flow of products to its distribution channels.

In the competitive environment, Calavo Growers faces global players such as Mission Produce, Westfalia Fruit, and West Pak Avocado, in addition to Del Monte. Competition focuses on logistics, quality, and prices. Founded in 1924, it was the first avocado company to be listed on NASDAQ.
