CAAAREM’s five proposals presented this Tuesday include the use of artificial intelligence and Big Data in CAAAREM’s prevalidator.

These approaches come, in part, as an effect of a series of federal government operations against smuggling and customs fraud.

CAAAREM Proposals

CAAAREM -Confederation of Customs Agents Associations of the Mexican Republic- is a trade organization founded on June 8, 1938, whose main mission is to represent and defend the interests of customs agents in Mexico

Following are the five proposals of this organization:

  1. Create an Observatory against Commercial Fraud, which replaces the tables to combat illegality suspended since 2018 -a decision that we consider a serious mistake-.
  2. Establish a secure, real-time information exchange system that allows us to detect risk patterns, suspicious routes and undervaluation practices.
  3. Promote the use of artificial intelligence and Big Data in CAAAREM’s prevalidator, to strengthen the automated detection of irregularities.
  4. Promote digital traceability in supply chains and foster a culture of compliance and business ethics through specialized training, where our CAAAREM University Institute will play a central role.
  5. Establish the most important clause of this agreement: zero tolerance for corruption. If anyone, whether from the customs or industrial guild, incurs in illegal practices, he/she must be excluded and face the full weight of the law. No privileges or exceptions. Any information we obtain will be made immediately available to the authorities.

Technical smuggling

This confederation groups 99% of Mexico’s customs agents (approximately 875), distributed in 38 associations at border, maritime, air and inland points.

CAAAREM’s proposals were presented by its president, Miguel Cos Nesbitt, to businessmen during the signing of an agreement with Concamin in Mexico City.

The following leaders participated in the agreement:

  • Alejandro Malagón Barragán, President of Concamin.
  • Rafael Zaga Saba, President of the National Chamber of the Textile Industry.
  • José Pablo Mauad Pontón, president of the National Chamber of the Apparel Industry.
  • Juan Carlos Cashat Usabiaga, President of the Footwear Industry Chamber of the State of Guanajuato.
  • Mauricio Battaglia Velázquez, president of Concamin’s Commission for the Defense of Legality.
