Embraer promotes A-29 Super Tucano to patrol Mexico’s borders

Embraer promove o A-29 Super Tucano para patrulhar as fronteiras do México

Brazilian company Embraer is promoting its A-29 Super Tucano aircraft for border patrols in Mexico.

“The Super Tucano is an aircraft to patrol borders and to combat illicit activities on the borders,” said Francisco Gomes, Embraer’s CEO.

Gomes added that the company has orders for this aircraft for Paraguay and Uruguay.

Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Ecuador already operate the Super Tucano. In total, Embraer has sold more than 60 of these aircraft to Latin America

The A-29 Super Tucano is an aircraft equipped for close air support and counterinsurgency scenarios.

These are some of its features:  

  • It contains integrated sensors.
  • It has a data link.
  • Provides cockpit protection.
  • It has multiple payload configurations. 
  • Its turboprop platform is robust and reliable with a high precision payload delivery system. 

Since its entry into service in 2004, Embraer has sold a total of more than 260 units to 16 different countries by the end of 2023.

Patrolling borders

In total, since its inception until December 31, 2023, Embraer has sold more than 1,400 defense aircraft, including government transport aircraft, to more than 60 armed forces and operators worldwide. 

The A-29 Super Tucano and the C-390 Millennium are the main products of its Defense and Security segment. 

The C-390 Millennium is a multi-role military transport aircraft developed to become the market leader in its category. 

It has various capabilities and can be used for a variety of missions, such as firefighting and aerial refueling (KC-390 Millennium version). 

The C-390 Millennium provides flexibility, endurance, mobility, easy maintenance and the latest technology.

Gomes said that the Netherlands and Austria have already announced C-390 purchases. He added that Embraer is in the final sales phase of this aircraft with the Czech Republic and South Korea.

The company also entered the radar and ground systems market with the acquisition of Bradar in 2011, which was fully incorporated into Embraer in 2018.
