Canada announces measures to enter by air transport

In air transport, from the last minute of January 6, Canada will request to present a negative result of the PCR test for Covid-19 to all passengers who wish to enter the country, before boarding their flight.

This provision is in addition to the 14 days of quarantine or self-isolation that each person must comply with when entering the country.

The Government of Canada reported that, as of 11:59 pm next Wednesday, January 6, all passengers in air transport aged five years and older must present a negative result in the COVID-19 test before boarding their flight towards that country.

Documentation of the negative result of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test, performed within 72 hours prior to the scheduled departure to Canada, must be presented to the corresponding airline.

In addition to this new requirement, all passengers must complete the quarantine period (14 days) required by the Canadian authorities.

The quarantine plan for all passengers will continue to be reviewed by a Canadian government official and, if not appropriate, they will be required to comply with this requirement in a federal quarantine facility.

In this regard, the Government of Canada warned that it will continue to intensify its surveillance efforts to ensure that travelers comply with the mandatory quarantine period.

For this reason, it is necessary for all travelers to use the ArriveCAN tool available for smart mobile devices (iOS and Android), or by creating an account on the website https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/ services / diseases / coronavirus-disease-covid-19 / arrivecan.html.

The violation of any requirement established by the Canadian government to avoid the chain of infections by COVID-19 is demarcated as a crime, according to the Quarantine Law and the penalties are up to six months in prison and / or the payment of 750,000 Canadian dollars fine.

The Government of Mexico recommends learning about the new measures before planning your trip to Canada and following the recommendations of the health authorities. Likewise, our embassy and consulates in that country will be vigilant in order to prevent the violation of the rights of Mexicans traveling to Canada.
