Mexico’s National Customs Agency (ANAM) reported that customs examination at the Manzanillo customs office takes, on average, three hours.
This process consists of the physical or documentary inspection of the goods. Its purpose is to confirm that they match what is declared in the documents, comply with regulations and restrictions, and pay the corresponding taxes. This is the only way to authorize their entry into or exit from the country.
Customs examination
During the first half of 2025, Manzanillo Customs carried out 546,365 operations. This figure represents an annual decrease of 3.4%. In addition, it processed 421,584 pedimentos, a decrease of 1.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The expansion of the port of Manzanillo is progressing as part of the federal government’s strategic projects. It includes public and private investment to increase its capacity by 1,800 hectares. With this, it will be able to handle up to 10 million containers.
This growth seeks to position Manzanillo as the most relevant port in Latin America and one of the 20 most important in the world.
Globally, customs clearance takes about three hours. «In Mexico, including Manzanillo, the times are in that range. This confirms the country’s competitiveness and reliability in foreign trade,» ANAM said in a statement.
In June 2025, Manzanillo registered more than 6,700 customs inspections. According to ANAM, its service times comply with international best practices.
That same month, the value of operations totaled 928,077 million pesos. The figure implies an annual increase of 16.3 percent.
Port logistics
ANAM stressed that Manzanillo Customs operates smoothly and without delays. Each verifier attended an average of 200 inspections per month. This performance ensures a steady flow, even with high cargo volumes.
Efficiency at Manzanillo Customs strengthens international trade, logistical security and national supply. Thus, the port consolidates its role as a strategic node of the Mexican economy and an engine of development for the region.
