Mexico doubled its non-oil extractive exports in the last six years, in the first half of 2019 compared to the first half of 2025, Inegi reported.

Thus, these foreign sales increased from 3,024 million dollars to 6,277 million dollars, a record.

Non-oil extractive exports

Exports from this sector represent 1.7% of Mexico’s total foreign sales.

Non-oil extractive and non-manufacturing exports include goods without industrial transformation. They include raw minerals, stone, sand, gravel and salt. They also include fishery products such as shrimp and tuna. In addition, forestry resources such as wood, charcoal and resins stand out.

Below is the trend of non-oil extractive exports from Mexico in the first half of each year, in millions of dollars and their year-on-year growth rate:

  • 2018: 3,297 (+8.9 percent).
  • 2019: 3,024 (-8.3 percent).
  • 2020: 3,200 (+5.8 percent).
  • 2021: 4,727 (+47.7 percent).
  • 2022: 4,575 (-3.2 percent).
  • 2023: 4,990 (+9.1 percent).
  • 2024: 5,143 (+3.1 percent).
  • 2025: 6,277 (+22.0 percent).

Mining and Metallurgy

In 2024, Mexico’s mining and metallurgy exports reached US$25, 583 million. The amount represented an annual increase of 9.9 percent. This advance was explained by an 11% rebound in external sales of metallic minerals.

Mining and metallurgical exports are classified within the manufacturing sector. This is because minerals, such as gold, silver, copper or zinc, are not shipped raw. They go through industrial processes. They are smelted, refined or concentrated for export.

For their part, Mexican imports of mining-metallurgy products totaled 19.09 billion dollars in 2024. The figure represented a 4.5% annual drop. Purchases of metallic products fell 4.2 percent, while those of non-metallic minerals fell 6 percent.

Here are the main Mexican exports of mining-metallurgy products in 2024, in millions of dollars:

Precious metals:

  • Gold: 5,664.
  • Silver: 3,677.

Industrial minerals:

  • Copper: 6,628.
  • Lead: 2,710.
  • Zinc: 2,108.

Non-metallic minerals:

  • Fluorspar: 210.
  • Natural abrasives: 205.
  • Cement: 191.
