How many economic development poles for welfare are there in Mexico? The answer is 25, already in operation or authorized.

In addition to these, there are 26 others that are in the process of evaluation or that were proposed by the state governments.

The balance was made this Thursday by the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, during a press conference at the National Palace.

How many economic development poles for welfare are there?

These poles were originally created as part of the Inter-Oceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT) project, during the term of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s administration.

The acronym of the poles is Prodecobi and now their development will be aligned with Plan Mexico, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

The Poles in the process of evaluation are:

  • ZM Mérida, Yucatán.
  • Lázaro Cárdenas-La Unión de Isidoro Montes de Oca, Guerrero.
  • Carboniferous Zone, Coahuila.
  • Hermosillo, Sonora.

Here are the poles proposed by the state governments (only the states where they will be located, if approved, are mentioned):

  • Aguascalientes.
  • Baja California.
  • Baja California Sur,

  • Colima.
  • Jalisco.
  • Morelos.
  • Nayarit.

In addition, there are two more in the bidding process: Tapachula I and II, in Chiapas, as well as Teapa, in Tabasco.
