Denim fabric exports Mexico fell at a year-on-year rate of 50.2% in 2024, to US$33.4 million.
With ups and downs, these external sales in 2024 were the lowest in the last seven years, according to data from the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).
Denim fabrics are a type of strong cotton fabric, recognized worldwide for their use in the manufacture of jeans and other casual garments.

The denim jeans market in Mexico was estimated to be around US$3.85 billion in 2024.

- 2018: 69.8.
- 2019: 71.8.
- 2020: 57.2.
- 2021: 87.2.
- 2022: 104.6.
- 2023: 66.2.
- 2024: 33.2.
Support for the textile industry
The Mexican government has carried out a series of measures to support this sector, from inputs and fabrics to garments.
Vanessa Troice, director of Global Denim, said that Mexico not only produces fabrics, but also creates denim fashion with cutting-edge technology, international standards and a sustainable vision that positions the country among the leaders in the global market.
“It is an honor to be here as part of the Mexican textile industry and especially as a third-generation businesswoman at Global Denim, a 100% Mexican company that manufactures denim with a focus and commitment to quality, innovation and environmental responsibility,” she said at a B2B meeting of the sector held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy in Mexico City.

Mexico’s textile and apparel industry faces significant challenges from Asian competitors. On a global scale, the main exporters of denim fabrics in 2024 were China, Pakistan, India and Turkey.
In this sector, Mexico’s level of competitiveness varies depending on the segment, product type and destination markets.
Among the largest importers of denim fabrics were Bangladesh, Turkey, Vietnam, Mexico and Egypt.
