The Port of Salina Cruz, in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, will have four berthing positions for handling petroleum products.
In December 2019, pre-investment studies were authorized for the development of the oil and commercial port of Salina Cruz.
The objective is to complete the already existing protection works to have a protected oil terminal with four berthing positions for handling petroleum products (docks 1, 2 and 3) and two for crude oil and, where appropriate, fuel oil (dock 4) .
It is also intended to carry out dredging and complementary works in the Port of Salina Cruz for the Specialized Container Terminal, which is considered as the second stage of this project and is intended to be developed with private investment.
In addition, the completion of the western breakwater of the oil terminal is part of this project, which will allow the operation of vessels 365 days a year.
Port of Salina Cruz
In April 2020, the breakwater construction contract was awarded for 4,147 million pesos, in a 36-month execution period, starting construction in May 2020.
This work will allow the generation of approximately 100 jobs in the Port of Salina Cruz.
In June 2020, the National Public Bidding processes began for the assignment of the studies and executive projects necessary for the development of the Port of Salina Cruz, Oaxaca.
Logistics
As part of the Strategic Plan and Conceptual Master Plan of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, a consultancy hired by the governments of Oaxaca and Veracruz was developed, the results of which were the following:
- Preliminary assessment of available opportunities; report that provides aspects of connectivity, logistics and expectations; proposal of 31 sectors of economic activity to be developed in five potential ecosystems or clusters that can be implemented in the short, medium and long term in the Isthmus, as well as projections of economic activity and mechanisms to generate linkages at the regional level; diagnosis of social feasibility of the Interoceanic Corridor; analysis of the conditions of the territory in environmental, edaphological, geological terms and inventory of needs and prerogatives for the development of communities and social inclusion, such as hospitals, schools, among others.
- The five ecosystems proposed for development in the region are: agribusiness and forestry, energy, manufacturing, services, and logistics and packaging.
In September and November 2019 and February 2020, three field visits were made to industrial parks to promote business models with the population of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
From September 2019 to June 2020, four Letters of Intent were received from industrial park developers with the ability to invest in the short term in the Development Poles for Wellbeing.
