US Customs seize methamphetamine valued at $ 11.6 million

Customs and Border Protection, Customs Operations (OFO) intercepted alleged $ 11,618,000 worth of methamphetamine hidden in a commercial trailer arriving from Mexico over the weekend at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility.

“Our officers working at Pharr’s commercial facilities made this methamphetamine discovery through effective use of all available tools and resources. These narcotics did not cross the border and will never cause harm to our communities,” said Carlos Rodríguez, director of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

On November 13, 2020, a tractor/trailer containing a commercial shipment of fresh broccoli arrived at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge and a CBP officer referred the shipment for further inspection, including a non-intrusive imaging (NII) examination.

Customs officers continued with the secondary inspection and eventually discovered that the trailer contained suspicious packages of narcotics. Officers removed 330 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 581 pounds (263.5 kg) from the floor of the trailer.

CBP OFO seized the narcotics along with the tractor/trailer and the case continues to be investigated by agents with the Agency of ICE-Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
