Renault Group signed alliances with Plug Power, STMicroelectronics and Envision AESC

The automotive company Renault Group recently signed alliances with Plug Power, STMicroelectronics and Envision AESC.

To start with, on June 3, 2021, Renault Group and Plug Power Inc., a world leader in turnkey hydrogen and fuel cell solutions, launch HYVIA, a joint venture that is owned equally by the two partners and whose Activities will take place at four existing Renault facilities in France.

HYVIA expects to be the first to commercialize turnkey hydrogen mobility solutions: fuel cell light commercial vehicles, hydrogen charging stations, carbon-free hydrogen supply, maintenance and fleet management.

Then, on June 25, 2021, Renault Group selected STMicroelectronics as a key innovation partner, ensuring the supply of advanced power semiconductors for electric and hybrid vehicles to be produced from 2026.

Finally, on June 29, 2021, the company enters into a strategic partnership with Envision AESC by setting up a gigafactory in Douai, near Renault ElectriCity, to support the manufacture of state-of-the-art, cost-competitive low-carbon batteries from of 2024.

Renault Group also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the French company Verkor to jointly develop a high-performance, locally sourced and sustainable battery by 2022 to hold a stake of more than 20% in Verkor.

The company’s turnover totaled 23,357 million euros in the first half of 2021, a year-on-year growth of 26.8 percent.

In terms of volume, the Renault brand sold 901,500 vehicles worldwide, 18.5% more than in the first half of 2020.

Growth resumed in all key countries. The share of European sales was 59 percent.

Meanwhile, in the five main European countries (France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom), the share of sales to retail customers now represents 40%, almost 2 points more than in 2019, the situation before the crisis.

In addition, in Europe, the Renault brand sold 532,161 vehicles (+ 13.2%), representing a market share of 7 percent.

This performance was driven by strong growth in the sales of electric passenger and electrified E-TECH vehicles (91,869 vehicles, 149% more).

Already with almost 20,000 orders in three months of sales, Arkana has enabled a successful return to the C segment.

In a market for light commercial vehicles that grew by 42.3%, Renault increased its market share by 0.4 points to 14.4 percent.
