The General Administration of Customs (AGA) of Mexico increased the seize godos by 700% in 2019 compared to the previous year.
The seize goods of illegally introduced merchandise was worth 23,530 million pesos (20,589 million pesos more than in 2018).
In these operations, the amount of the PAMAS was determined for 5,477 million pesos, a higher amount of 3,887 million pesos compared to 2018, derived from the review and inspection (cargo and passengers) at the country’s customs.Map: SAT. Mainly, this was the result of the seizure of documents, importation of foreign currency by means of documents receivable or cash, carried out at the Toluca Customs.
Irregularities, such as errors in the tariff classification or undervaluation of imports, among others, give rise to the initiation of an Administrative Procedure in Customs Matters (PAMAS).
The PAMAS are the set of acts provided for in the Customs Law, linked in succession, in order to determine the omission of contributions, restrictions and regulations and, where appropriate, impose the corresponding sanctions in foreign trade, respecting in particular their right to a hearing when considering the evidence and arguments that seek to justify the legality of their acts.
Customs and seize goods
As part of the United States-Mexico Bilateral Strategic Customs Plan, the Mexican government identified altered and/or apocryphal invoices and non-localized or non-existent suppliers that covered the purchase-sale of imported merchandise with a customs value of 291 million pesos in 2019. This is 834 million pesos less than the previous year.
The AGA is the competent authority to apply the legislation that regulates customs clearance, as well as the systems, methods and procedures to which customs must abide; intervene in the study and formulation of the projects of tariffs, compensatory quotas and other measures of regulation and restriction of foreign trade, among other functions
