Maersk works with the California Port Trucking Association

Maersk highlighted that the 2020 trans-Pacific peak season has created challenges for many ground logistics providers trying to keep up with import cargo volumes testing port and ground distribution infrastructure.

As such, the company is actively working with the Long Beach, California-based Port Trucking Association, whose membership of more than 15,000 truck drivers plays the important role of trucking from ports to warehouses and distribution centers, essential to the success of the supply chain.

Narin Phol, Regional Managing Director for Maersk North America, said: “We are working closely with the Harbor Trucking Association (HTA) and our customers to manage this peak season efficiently. Each week brings new volumes, new challenges and opportunities, so it is essential that we collaborate effectively with our HTA partners. We are exploring short-term and long-term solutions with all of our key stakeholders to address the situation.»

As a global integrator of container logistics, Maersk is in daily contact with the Harbor Trucking Association and has a cadence of meetings with Weston LaBar, the president of the Harbor Trucking Association, to hear and share feedback on the terminal’s performance, such as doors. of trucks, appointment systems, empty returns, and ways to optimize the trucking experience for HTA members.

APM Terminals Pier 400 Los Angeles is the largest private container terminal in the Port of Los Angeles / Long Beach and in North America.

As such, it plays a critical role in the daily flow of cargo with the trucking community.

The terminal focuses on dual transactions, allowing a trucker to return an empty container and pick up an import container for local delivery.

65% of Pier 400 gate transactions are dual transactions, and the goal is to increase this, enabling more productive trips for port truckers.

Maersk operates in the 2M Alliance, considered the simplest and easiest ocean carrier alliance to work with truckers (as the alliance consists of only two ocean carriers, Maersk and MSC, and only two ports in the LA-Long Beach complex) .

This ease of use by truckers allows them to efficiently pick up and return containers to two ports located in close proximity to each other.

Additionally, Port 2M in Long Beach, MSC’s TTI, offers truckers one of the best in-port appointment systems to support their daily planning and time management, as well as Saturday gates.
