Exports from Mexico to the US fall 15.3% in June

Exports from Mexico to the United States totaled $ 25,804 million in June, a drop of 15.3% year-on-year, the Census Bureau reported on Wednesday.

With this, Mexico was placed in the second position among the largest external suppliers of products in the US market.

Exports from Mexico were below those of China, which fell 3.4%, to $ 37,639 million, and above those of Canada, which decreased 26.5%, to 20,357 million, at annual rates.

The United States is the largest importer of products in the world, buying a wide variety of merchandise, especially cars, oil, telephones, computers, medicines, auto parts, and medical products.

Overall, imports of goods from the US market totaled $ 179.729 million, a year-on-year drop of 13.2 percent.

US imports have been affected in the first half of 2020 by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, both in terms of the inputs, parts and components that it acquires from abroad due to disruptions in supply chains, and consumer goods due to the economic crisis in the local market.

From January to June, Mexico’s exports to the United States totaled 144,056 million dollars, a reduction of 19.7% annually.

During that same period, Canada’s sales to its southern neighbor were $ 126.055 million, a decrease of 20.2%, and those of China totaled $ 181.208 million, a decrease of 17.1 percent.

The United States offers the largest consumer market in the world with a GDP of $ 20 trillion and 325 million people.
