Casa México and Grupo Alibaba boost sales of Mexican products in China

Through Casa México and Grupo Alibaba, companies have made sales of Mexican products in China, reported the Consulate General of Mexico in Shanghai, China.

In alliance with Mexican businessmen residing in the region, and the Mexican product marketer Casa México, there has been a presence of Mexican products in Yiwu, Ningbo and Wenzhou, through participation in commercial exhibitions.

At the China International Import Fair (CIIE), held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, the presence of two pavilions of Mexican products was supported, one of 15 companies organized by the Government of Jalisco and a second from Casa México.

Permanent communication is maintained with representatives of various Mexican brands and companies, including them in promotional and outreach activities organized or accompanied by the Consulate of Mexico in Shanghai.

Alibaba

The Consulate attended inquiries from Chinese businessmen who wish to invest in Mexico, particularly in the automotive, furniture and energy sectors.

The states that have been identified as possible recipients of the investments are Aguascalientes, Coahuila, the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Puebla and San Luis Potosí.

Among the products promoted at trade fairs are pecan nuts, chia, coffee, chocolate, avocado and derivatives, juices, tequila, mezcal, wine and beer, among others.

Additionally, the sale of Mexican products was promoted on the Tmall, Grupo Alibaba, and LaMeiTao digital platforms, an initiative of Mexican entrepreneurs in Shanghai.

Casa Mexico

Since previous years, a solid relationship has been cultivated with Tmall, the Alibaba Group’s e-commerce platform, which regularly carries out promotions for imported products.

In this year in which digital commerce has had an even greater boom due to the pandemic, this representation participated in two large commercial promotions at the national level: in January, the Mexican avocado was promoted and, in November, the tequila.

The open dialogue with Tmall executives prevails, laying the foundations so that in the coming years a flagship store of Mexican products can be had on the platform, which requires the participation of various agencies of the federal executive, local governments, as well as chambers of commerce and national companies.

Likewise, the establishment of the online store for Latin American products LaMeiTao, an initiative of two Mexican businessmen, including the director of Casa México in Shanghai, has been supported.

Chinese market

Commercial promotion has been a priority task of this Office. In coordination with the companies Casa México and LaMeiTao, this Consulate has participated in several trade exhibitions, highlighting the Special Event with Mexico on Textiles, Apparel and Accessories organized by the Huzhou Board of Trade; the China Candy & Snacks and International Allfood Expo 2020, in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province; the 3rd China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai; the China Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair, in Zhejiang province; and the 3rd International Import Expo in Wenzhou, Zhejiang.

Of these exhibitions, the CIIE is the most relevant for Mexican companies that wish to commercialize their products in the Chinese market, with nearly 1.4 billion consumers.

Mexico participated with two pavilions in that fair: one from the State of Jalisco and another from the Casa México company. Through 15 companies in the agri-food sector, Jalisco promoted the following products: pecan nuts, chia, quinoa, sesame seeds, fig jam, dehydrated fruits, inulin and agave honey, avocado oil and fresh avocado, seahorse, food supplements, pet food, alcoholic beverages, tequila, beer, and freeze-dried products.

For its part, Casa México presented brands of gourmet coffee, sugar substitutes, sweeteners, powdered agave honey, powdered chocolate; healthy drinks (juices, coconut milk), alcoholic beverages (wine, ciders, beer, mezcal, coffee liqueur), clamato, sangrita, flaxseed water, balanced food and carbonated drinks.

The close cooperation with the Mexican import company Casa México has already been mentioned. Additionally, support was provided with the authorities to several Mexicans who this year formally registered their companies in Shanghai, highlighting the Regional Federation of Cooperative Societies of the Fishing Industry Baja California (FEDECOP).
